Math Tutoring
Getting Started...
We begin with a consultation and in-depth testing session ($99). Expect this to take up to two hours. During this time, the student will be tested over the Indiana Math Standards (the same standards tested on ISTEP).
Our test is made up of three parts:
1) paper/written
2) computer
3) verbal/hands-on with a teacher
Within two days of the testing session, a detailed report will be available. This report will show which standards the student has mastered, which ones are in the developing stages and which ones the student did not seem to understand at all.
Next...
After reviewing the test results and discussing the needs of the student, it is time to come up with a plan for achieving success. Each student at Indy Learning Center has his/her own individual learning plan. We usually recommend that part of the student's tutoring program includes homework support and the other part of the time is dedicated to working on standards that have not been mastered. Most students who struggle in math are struggling because they have not mastered concepts from the previous grades/levels. However, that is not always the case. If you prefer to set up a program to only focus on material for the current class/level, we can do that too!
Finally...
Students begin to come on a regular basis to meet with qualified tutors. A variety of teaching strategies are used as we tap into each student's preferred learning style.
Rates for Private Math Lessons
Math lessons are now sold in packages of minutes. You may schedule the time however you’d like (30-minute, 45-minute or one-hour lessons). The more minutes you purchase up front, the lower the rate. Acceptable methods for payments are cash, money order or check. Packages expire six months from the purchase date. A lesson will not be scheduled until payment has been made in advance. To schedule lessons, please contact Laura at (317) 753-1661 or lauraflowers@indylearnincenter.com. If a lesson needs to be canceled or rescheduled, two-week advance notice is requested.
Note: Any student who is currently on a different plan may continue with that plan for the remainder of 2008 or switch to the new plan. In most cases families will save money by switching to this new plan.
